Make Music Day Denton - Flowerpot Music

On June 21st, Adam will lead a performance of Elliot Cole’s Flowerpot Music for the annual Make Music Day celebration in Denton. Performers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join and can learn the piece on the day of the event. Anyone can RSVP here!

Make Music Day is a one-day event where free, live musical performances, opportunities to make music, and other musical events take place around the world on the longest day of the year. Musical festivities in Denton are part of a global celebration of music-making in over 750 cities inspired by France’s Fête de la Musique.

Flowerpot Music, written by celebrated composer Elliot Cole and directed by percussionist Peter Ferry, is a composition for an unlikely but beautiful percussion instrument – the flowerpot! Join a group and create outdoor soundscapes through easy-to-learn games, appropriate for musicians and non-musicians alike.

On international Make Music Day this June 21st, groups around the world will assemble in parks, fields and public squares, with safe social distance, to learn and then premiere the piece, specially composed for Make Music Day. Everyone is welcome to join in the performance! No musical experience required.

Those who would like to participate should bring an empty flowerpot and be prepared to actively listen to their environment. Mallets for striking the flowerpots will be generously provided by Vic Firth Percussion.

The event will begin with a short rehearsal of the piece at 1pm and the full performance will begin at 2pm.
